Mohamed Salah has played his final game for Liverpool. The Egyptian king’s nine-year tenure at Anfield has come to a premature end following a hamstring tear suffered during the Reds’ 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace.
The news was confirmed by Egypt national team director Ibrahim Hassan, who revealed that the 33-year-old winger will be sidelined for at least four weeks. While Liverpool has yet to release an official medical update, Hassan’s statement confirms that Salah will not be fit for the final stretch of the Premier League season.
Salah, who previously announced his departure from the reigning Premier League champions at the end of this season, was seen applauding the Anfield crowd as he limped off in the 60th minute against Palace.
Instead of a final goal-scoring flourish against Chelsea, Manchester United, or Brentford, Salah’s farewell will now be restricted to a speech. He is expected to address the fans at Anfield following the season finale against Brentford on May 24.
Salah leaves as Liverpool’s third-highest goalscorer of all time. Despite a season hampered by this late injury, he still managed to record 12 goals and nine assists across all competitions this year. His absence in the upcoming clash against Manchester United—a team he has famously dominated—will be a significant loss for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Despite the injury, Hassan provided a silver lining for Egyptian fans, confirming that Salah is expected to be fit for the 2026 World Cup in North America. Egypt is set to face Belgium, New Zealand, and Iran in Group G.
Salah is reportedly determined to undergo a rigorous recovery process to avoid a repeat of the 2018 World Cup, where his participation was limited due to a shoulder injury sustained in the Champions League final.

“I never thought I’d enjoy training this much until joining Sportif. The coaches are supportive and really know how to bring out the best in you.”
