Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) cemented their status as the dominant force in university football by successfully defending their IPT Football League Charity Shield title.
The defending champions secured a 3-1 victory over long-time rivals Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in a high-octane season opener on Wednesday.
Under the guidance of head coach Mohd Rafiq Roslan, UKM wasted no time asserting their authority. Prolific striker Izrin Ibrahim silenced the opposition early on, finding the back of the net in the opening minutes to give UKM an early lead.
UiTM, however, refused to back down and intensified their offensive play as the first half progressed. Their persistence paid off just before the interval when Adim Muzahhir Azuan clinical finish leveled the score at 1-1, setting the stage for a tense second half.
UKM returned from the break with renewed aggression and tactical discipline. The breakthrough came in the 61st minute when Afiq Norizan regained the lead for his side with a powerful strike.
Afiq then turned hero of the match by netting his second of the night—a stunning 20-meter long-range effort that left the UiTM goalkeeper with no chance.
The 3-1 victory ensures the prestigious trophy remains in Bangi for another year. In a congratulatory statement, UKM Vice-Chancellor and the university’s top management praised the team’s quality and spirit.
The win marks a perfect start to the 2026 campaign for UKM, who now look ahead to their league fixtures with high confidence.

“I never thought I’d enjoy training this much until joining Sportif. The coaches are supportive and really know how to bring out the best in you.”
