National squash ace Ng Eain Yow bowed out of the British Open after falling to reigning world champion and world No. 1 Mostafa Asal of Egypt in the third round on Tuesday.

The world No. 20 Malaysian put up a spirited fight but was ultimately outclassed by the top-seeded Egyptian, losing 11-5, 11-4, 11-5 in a match that lasted 43 minutes.

A Tough Hurdle Against the World Champion

The defeat marks Eain Yow’s fourth loss to Asal in their five career meetings. Despite the exit, Eain Yow showed progress on the Birmingham courts compared to his campaign last year, where he exited in the second round.

Asal, who finished as the runner-up in last year’s tournament, advances to the quarter-finals where he will lock horns with France’s world No. 7 Victor Crouin.

Sivasangari Carries the Malaysian Flag

Following Eain Yow’s departure, world No. 5 S. Sivasangari remains the sole Malaysian representative left standing in the prestigious tournament. Sivasangari is scheduled to take the court later today for her own challenging third-round clash, where she will face England’s world No. 8 Georgina Kennedy for a spot in the quarter-finals.
