Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Crowned Indonesia Open Champions, Ending Malaysia’s 18-Year Drought

National professional men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani have etched their names into the history books by capturing the Indonesia Open 2026 title at the iconic Istora Senayan on Sunday.

The world No. 8 duo delivered a masterclass in resilience, fighting back from a set down to defeat home favorites Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin with a score of 13-21, 21-19, 21-10 in a 49-minute thriller.

Ending the 18-Year Wait

This victory marks a monumental milestone for Malaysian badminton, as Sze Fei and Izzuddin become the first Malaysian men’s doubles pair to win the Indonesia Open in nearly two decades. T

The triumph in Jakarta adds a second Super 1000 title to their collection, following their success at the China Open in 2024. Interestingly, this victory also mirrored their Indonesian Masters final in January, where they defeated the same Indonesian pair at the same venue.

Giant-Killers on the Road to Glory

The path to the final was anything but easy. On Saturday, Sze Fei and Izzuddin pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the tournament by toppling the world No. 1 and defending champions, Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae of South Korea.

In a high-octane semifinal match that lasted three sets, the Malaysians displayed immense energy and tactical discipline to overcome the top seeds 21-18, 17-21, 21-16, proving they belong among the world’s elite.

A Season of Dominance in Jakarta

With this latest win, Sze Fei and Izzuddin have now defeated Raymond and Nikolaus in two out of their three career meetings.
