Ann Pow Officially Recognized by Malaysia Book of Records as First Female to Conquer Ultraman Australia

Malaysian endurance athlete Ann Pow (Pow Chia Ling) has officially etched her name into the national history books, as she has been formally recognized by the Malaysia Book of Records as the first Malaysian female ever to complete the gruelling Ultraman Australia ultra-endurance triathlon.

A Milestone for Malaysian Endurance Sports

While traditional marathons and standard Ironman triathlons stand as monumental challenges for most, the Melaka-born triathlete and New Balance ambassador decided to push human limitations to a whole new level.

The multi-day event took place across the scenic but unforgiving landscapes of Noosa on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland, Australia.

Renowned globally as one of the single most punishing ultra-endurance tests on the planet, the grueling 515-kilometer course must be completed over three consecutive days.

Breaking Down the 515km Ultimate Test

To secure her historic spot in the Malaysia Book of Records, Ann had to conquer a massive distance split into three intensive phases:

  • Day 1: A brutal 10-kilometer open-water swim.
  • Day 2: A grueling 421.1-kilometer long-distance bicycle ride.
  • Day 3: A final 84.3-kilometer ultra-marathon run—the exact equivalent of running two full back-to-back marathons.

Ann successfully crossed the ultimate finish line with an official registered time of 30 hours, 43 minutes, and 24 seconds.

The three-day feat pushed her to extreme levels of physical exhaustion and immense mental strain, requiring an elite level of discipline, focus, and sheer patience to overcome.

Redefining What’s Possible

Reflecting on her historic achievement, Ann highlighted that her primary motivation was testing the absolute limits of human willpower.

“I just want to see how far I can go before I tell myself to stop.”

With her official certificate in hand, the newly minted record holder has no intentions of slowing down her competitive drive.

Following a dedicated period of physical recovery and health management, Ann plans to represent Malaysia on the global stage again by targeting a selection of prestigious international ultra-endurance events in the near future.

Beyond breaking a historic barrier, Ann’s inclusion in the Malaysia Book of Records serves as a landmark developmental milestone for the Malaysian endurance community, inspiring a whole new generation of female athletes across the nation to dream bigger and redefine what is possible.
