Malaysia’s rising archery stars enjoyed a landmark week at the 2026 Singapore Archery Youth Championship, returning home with an impressive haul of three gold medals, six silvers, one bronze, and eight national records that signalled the country’s growing strength across both the Under-18 and Under-21 ranks.

Held from 2–5 July in Singapore, the regional championship brought together some of Asia’s brightest young talents from the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, China, Hong Kong, and the host nation.

Malaysia not only kept pace with the continent’s best—they emerged as one of the tournament’s standout teams.

Malaysia Dominates the Podium Across Two Age Categories

Malaysia’s medal haul reflected impressive depth rather than reliance on a handful of athletes.

The biggest highlight came in the Recurve Under-18 Mixed Team, where an all-Malaysian final guaranteed both gold and silver.

Nur Qaireen Umairah and Muhammad Taufiq Assyifa’ captured the title after defeating teammates Emmi Humaira and Ikmal Dzariff, showcasing the country’s strength in the discipline.

The success continued in the Under-21 category.

Nur Ieka Hariesya partnered Wan Qayyim Syahmi to claim gold in the Recurve Under-21 Mixed Team, while Wan Qayyim returned to the podium alongside Muhammad Akid Bazli and Muhammad Rizq Arif to secure another title in the Recurve Under-21 Men’s Team event.

Wan Qayyim then capped an outstanding tournament with silver in the Under-21 Men’s Individual, underlining his consistency across multiple events.

Eight National Records Fall

Beyond the medals, Malaysia rewrote the national record book.

Before the elimination rounds even began, the Under-17 recurve squad broke eight national records during qualification.

Ikmal Dzariff led the charge by resetting both the 72-arrow and 36-arrow Under-17 men’s individual records before helping establish a new men’s team record.

Emmi Humaira matched the feat on the women’s side, breaking both Under-17 individual records while contributing to new women’s team and mixed team national marks.

Perhaps most impressively, Emmi’s opening 336-point 36-arrow round also eclipsed Malaysia’s senior women’s national record at the distance, becoming one of the championship’s defining performances.

Silver Success Across the Board

Malaysia repeatedly found themselves competing for gold throughout the week.

Nur Qaireen Umairah produced a superb individual run to finish runner-up in the Under-18 Women’s Individual, while both the Under-18 men’s and women’s teams battled their way into the finals before settling for silver.

The men’s team pushed eventual champions Philippines all the way to a shoot-off after finishing tied at 4-4, falling only in the deciding arrows.

Malaysia also added another individual silver through Nur Arissa Najlaa, who reached the Under-21 Women’s Individual final.

A Campaign That Signals the Future

While medals are the obvious measure of success, Singapore offered something even more encouraging for Malaysian archery.

Across both age groups, Malaysian athletes consistently reached the latter stages of competition, contested multiple finals, and demonstrated genuine depth in team and individual events alike.

The all-Malaysian Under-18 mixed team final, Wan Qayyim’s multi-medal campaign, Nur Qaireen’s consistency, and the record-breaking performances from Ikmal Dzariff and Emmi Humaira all point towards a generation capable of competing with Asia’s traditional powerhouses.

Malaysia leaves Singapore not only with medals around their necks, but with growing belief that the country’s next wave of archers is ready for even bigger stages ahead.
