Fresh off its extensive coverage of the FIFA World Cup 2026, Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) has officially locked in the exclusive broadcasting rights for the upcoming Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, scheduled to run from July 23 to August 2, 2026.
Malaysian sports enthusiasts will be able to follow the national contingent’s campaign across multiple platforms, including Sukan+ on MYTV Channel 111, RTMKlik, official RTM social channels, and Astro Channel 806.
From the World Cup to Glasgow
RTM’s latest commitment continues a busy period for the broadcaster, which recently completed its month-long World Cup coverage.
This time, the focus shifts from football to a wide-ranging sporting programme featuring some of Malaysia’s most accomplished athletes across able-bodied and para disciplines.
Coverage will be available through RTM’s Sukan+ channel on MYTV (Channel 111), RTMKlik, RTM’s digital platforms, and Astro 806, ensuring viewers have multiple ways to follow the action from Scotland.
The broadcaster plans to deliver close to 100 hours of programming throughout the Games, including live events, daily reports and highlights packages.
Nearly 100 Hours of Live Action and Analysis
RTM’s coverage will feature nearly 100 total hours of dedicated broadcasting from Scotland. The schedule includes live daily reporting blocks, extended highlight shows, and comprehensive studio coverage of both the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
Throughout the Games, viewers can expect two daily live sessions covering key developments from Glasgow.
- Morning Report Slot (July 24 – August 2): 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM MYT (3-hour daily block)
- Evening Report Slot (July 25 – August 2): 1:00 AM – 4:00 AM MYT (3-hour daily block)
- Daily Highlights (July 25 – August 3): 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM MYT
The extensive schedule reflects RTM’s intention to provide continuous access to Team Malaysia’s campaign rather than limiting coverage to selected events.
Familiar Faces Take Centre Stage
RTM will once again rely on experienced presenters to guide viewers through the Games.
The Opening Ceremony’s Grandstand broadcast on July 24 (2:30 AM – 5:30 AM MYT) will be fronted by Zachki Ahmad Suri, Nik Syafiq Hadhari and Nazrie Fahmie, a trio tasked with bringing context, analysis and atmosphere to one of the most anticipated moments of the sporting calendar.
Meanwhile, the Closing Ceremony on August 3 will feature an all-female presenting team consisting of Jeed Zulkefli, Ninie Ibrahim and Iffah Hazim, continuing the broadcaster’s approach of blending sporting insight with engaging presentation.
Following the positive reception received during the World Cup, RTM appears eager to carry that momentum into another major international event.
Contingent Breakdown: 59 Athletes, 11-Medal Target
Led by Chef de Mission Datuk Awalan Abdul Aziz, Malaysia is sending a 59-strong athlete delegation—comprising 37 able-bodied athletes and 22 para-athletes—competing across 64 events in eight sports disciplines.
The sports lineup includes weightlifting/powerlifting, swimming/para-swimming, track cycling/para-track cycling, 3×3 basketball/3×3 wheelchair basketball, artistic gymnastics, judo, lawn bowls/para-lawn bowls, and athletics/para-athletics.
Official targets set for the Glasgow Games stand at 5 gold, 2 silver, and 4 bronze medals, grounded in current athlete rankings and recent international form.
Achieving that tally would represent another significant milestone for a programme seeking to strengthen its standing within the Commonwealth sporting landscape.
The Next Chapter
For many Malaysian athletes, Glasgow represents more than just another international competition.
It is a crucial opportunity to test themselves against world-class opposition, build momentum toward future major events and continue elevating Malaysian sport on the global stage.
For fans back home, RTM’s extensive coverage ensures that every breakthrough performance, medal challenge and memorable moment will be accessible throughout the Games.
After a summer dominated by football, Malaysia’s sporting spotlight now shifts north to Scotland, where a new generation of athletes will look to write their own stories on the Commonwealth stage.
