Chelsea Sack Rosenior After Just 106 Days; Worst Scoring Drought Since 1912

Chelsea have officially parted ways with head coach Liam Rosenior after a dismal three-month tenure that saw the club plummet to its worst statistical run in over 100 years.

Rosenior, who arrived from sister-club Strasbourg on a five-and-a-half-year deal, managed only 11 wins in 23 matches. The final blow came following Tuesday’s 3-0 defeat at Brighton, marking Chelsea’s fifth consecutive league loss without scoring—a feat not seen at the club since 1912.

The defeat left Chelsea languishing in seventh place, seven points adrift of Liverpool for the final Champions League spot. Rosenior himself described the performance at the Amex Stadium as “unacceptable” before the board took decisive action.

“This has not been a decision the club has taken lightly,” Chelsea said in an official statement. “However, recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards.”

Stats That Doomed Rosenior

  • Goal Drought: Five successive league games without a goal for the first time in 114 years.
  • Losing Streak: The longest Premier League losing streak for the club since 1993.
  • Defensive Woes: 12 consecutive league games without a clean sheet.
  • Tactical Struggle: Chelsea’s xG (Expected Goals) in the first half against Brighton was a mere 0.04, the lowest since data tracking began for the club.

Sources indicate that Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital are considering three main candidates for the permanent role:

  1. Andoni Iraola: The Bournemouth manager who recently announced he is leaving the Cherries.
  2. Marco Silva: The Fulham boss whose contract expires this July.
  3. Edin Terzic: Former Borussia Dortmund coach.

Calum McFarlane, who served as Rosenior’s assistant after a successful stint in the Chelsea Academy, has been named interim manager until the end of the season.

McFarlane faces an immediate baptism of fire this Sunday as he leads Chelsea to Wembley to face Leeds United in the FA Cup semi-final. With a place in the final at stake, the interim boss has a chance to save Chelsea’s season from total collapse.
