Malaysia Rugby (KRM) has officially announced that it will take over the implementation of the National Rugby Development Program (NRDP) starting in 2026. This strategic move sees KRM taking full leadership of the program, which was previously managed by the National Sports Council (NSC).
The decision is part of KRM’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the nation’s grassroots talent ecosystem, ensuring it is more structured and comprehensive.
To ensure a smooth transition, KRM has appointed two special officers responsible for managing and implementing the NRDP nationwide. Additionally, all 16 KRM state affiliates have appointed their respective coordinators and established dedicated training centers. This initiative aims to ensure that young talent in every corner of the country has access to high-quality, systematic training.
As part of the 2026 program lineup, KRM will organize the National Under-18 Sevens Championship this coming July.
This championship serves as more than just a competition; it is the primary platform for identifying and selecting the best players to represent Malaysia on the international stage. Selected players will go on to represent the nation in the Asia Rugby Boys & Girls Under-18 tournament, scheduled for September.
KRM emphasized its continued commitment to empowering youth development. By taking over the NRDP, the union aims to elevate the performance of national rugby through more efficient talent coordination, from the grassroots level all the way to the elite squads.

“I never thought I’d enjoy training this much until joining Sportif. The coaches are supportive and really know how to bring out the best in you.”
