The Malaysian men’s national lacrosse team has etched its name into the history books, securing a Bronze medal at the Asian Lacrosse Games 2026. This achievement marks the highest-ever finish recorded by a Malaysian lacrosse team on the continental stage.
In a high-stakes bronze medal match held on April 25, Malaysia showcased exceptional grit to defeat Saudi Arabia 15-10. The victory is seen as a major milestone for the sport in Malaysia, signaling the rapid rise of the national program despite facing significant odds.
Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of the feat was the squad size. Malaysia entered the tournament in Chengdu with the smallest “travelling squad” among the competing nations. However, the eleven-man roster proved that tactical discipline and heart could overcome a lack of depth.
The history-making squad included Ian Lee, Harith Bakri, Justin Jun Wei, Jake Marr, Putra Isyraq, Oliver Jun Wei, Muhd Hakim, Rashid Shukor, Callan Green, Tines Subramaniam, and Dylan Lee.
“I’ve never been prouder to wear this jersey,” said Jake Iskandar Marr, President of the Malaysia Lacrosse Association and a member of the squad. “We went into the tournament with the smallest squad, and we still brought home bronze. This medal belongs to every player, coach, and volunteer who’s ever given their time to Malaysian lacrosse.”
With lacrosse officially set to make its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Games, this bronze medal serves as a vital foundation for Malaysia’s Olympic ambitions.
The Malaysia Lacrosse Association has called the achievement a “genuine inflection point,” urging increased support from government bodies and the public to help the team set its sights on Olympic qualification.
As the national team returns home with silverware, the focus now shifts to building upon this historic foundation and putting Malaysia firmly on the global lacrosse map.

“I never thought I’d enjoy training this much until joining Sportif. The coaches are supportive and really know how to bring out the best in you.”
