The Malaysian junior squash squad concluded their campaign at the 33rd Asian Junior Individual Squash Championships 2026 with a highly competitive showing, walking away with a total of seven main draw medals alongside an absolute dominance in the Special Plate categories.

While the tournament highlighted the immense depth of Malaysia’s rising squash talent, a comparative glance at last year’s main draw results reveals a bittersweet narrative of immense consolation success but a slight dip at the absolute top of the podium.

Malaysia completed the main draw with 1 Gold, 2 Silver, and 4 Bronze medals. The standout performance of the tournament belonged to Harleein Tan in the Girls Under 17 category.

Demonstrating remarkable resilience, Harleein bounced back from a first-set deficit to defeat India’s Anika Dubey 9-11, 11-4, 12-10, 11-4 to secure Malaysia’s solitary gold medal. The victory marked a personal redemption for Harleein, who finished as the runner-up in the exact same category last year.

The silver medals were earned by Vidhurran Ruthiran (BU-15), who fell to Pakistan’s Ahmad Rayyan Khalil (7-11, 3-11, 4-11), and Whitney Isabelle Wilson (GU-19), who was bested by Hong Kong’s Helen Tang (7-11, 8-11, 4-11, 3-11).

Adding to the main podium haul were bronze medalists Muhammad Sharhan Mohd Saiful (BU-13), Julius Tan Li Hao (BU-15), Nickhileswar Moganasundharam (BU-19), and Jinoreeka Ning Manivannan (GU-17), all of whom bowed out valiantly in the semi-finals.

Where Malaysia showcased its true squad depth this year was in the Special Plate brackets—the competitive consolation tournaments designed for mid-round casualties. The Malaysian contingent secured 4 Champions and 2 Runners-up to bring home 6 Special Plate medals in total.

Aqil Mirza Niam captured the BU-19 Special Plate title, while Nuie Chew took home the GU-13 honors. The Boys Under 15 division saw an all-Malaysian surge as Wayne Isaac Anak Wilson and Sim Yeak Wei both claimed Special Plate championship trophies. Meanwhile, Janani Sarovanan (GU-15) and Altamis Aqhar Sallam (BU-19) finished their respective consolation campaigns as proud runners-up.
