Sivasangari Stuns World No. 3 Amina Orfi to Reach Grasshopper Cup Final

Malaysia’s top squash star, S Sivasangari, pulled off a stunning comeback to knock out top seed Amina Orfi, securing her spot in the 2026 Grasshopper Cup final for the second consecutive year.

In a grueling 81-minute battle, Sivasangari overturned a 1-2 deficit to defeat the Egyptian world number three 3-2 (11-7, 5-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-5). The victory was particularly sweet for the Malaysian, as she had not beaten Orfi since the 2023 Hong Kong Open and recently lost to her in the Karachi Open final.

Ranked world number six, Sivasangari remained composed despite the physical intensity of the match. After falling behind in the third set, she tightened her game to take a nail-biting fourth set 11-9 before dominating the decider.

“I am very happy, Amina is a very strong player. I just tried to focus on my game plan. It was physical, but I stayed calm and tried not to get distracted by things out of my control”, Sivasangari said after the match.

This victory marks Sivasangari’s fifth final appearance of the season. She is set to face Japan’s number one, Satomi Watanabe, in the championship match. Watanabe advanced after a convincing straight-sets victory over England’s Gina Kennedy (11-7, 11-5, 11-7).

With both players in top form, the final promises to be a high-stakes clash between Asia’s elite squash talents.
