Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman (STAR) etched their name into the history books by becoming the inaugural champions of the Super Schools Hockey (SSH) 2026 tournament.
In an explosive all-Perak final, the Ipoh-based school put on a masterclass performance to dismantle state rivals SMS Raja Tun Azlan Shah (Seratas) 6-2 at the Tengku Abdullah Hockey Stadium in Bangi.
The victory capped off a sensational and highly consistent campaign for STAR, who proved their undisputed credentials throughout the tournament to lift the first-ever Super Schools Hockey trophy.
The high-stakes final was further elevated by the presence of Kuala Lumpur Hockey Association (KLHA) President, I. Vikneswaran, who witnessed the tactical clash between the two Perak giants.
Prior to the championship showdown, the battle for the final podium spot produced its own share of high-octane drama.
SMS Johor (SMSJ) secured a hard-fought third-place finish by edging out Sekolah Dato’ Abdul Razak (SDAR) in a tense 3-2 penalty shootout.
The match had rolled into the shootout after both sides locked horns in a 2-2 stalemate during regulation time.
With these results, the definitive standings for the debut edition of the tournament concluded with STAR as champions, Seratas as runners-up, SMSJ in third, and SDAR finishing fourth.
The post-tournament prize-giving ceremony also shone a spotlight on individual brilliance and stellar sportsmanship.
Despite the heavy defeat in the final, Seratas found a silver lining as Muhammad Aqil was justly named the tournament’s Best Goalkeeper.
STAR’s dominant offensive unit swept the remaining major individual player accolades, with lethal forward Wafie Wajdie Burhanuddin finishing as the Top Scorer, while his teammate Danish Hakimi walked away with the coveted Most Valuable Player award.
Meanwhile, the Fairplay Award was presented to SMS Sembrong (Sasem) in recognition of the high level of discipline and exemplary sportsmanship they displayed throughout their fixtures.
The tournament also took a moment to honor Malaysian hockey heritage. Former Olympian and national captain R. Shankar was presented with the Icon Super Schools Hockey award, celebrating his immense lifelong contributions and service to the national team.
Evolving from a fresh collaboration between Enervive Sports and Staroba Hockey, the Super Schools Hockey tournament featured eight select schools in its debut run.
The competition was specifically conceptualized to serve as a vital hockey development platform, providing a better structured, more professional, and highly competitive environment tailored to unearthing and nurturing the next generation of quality Malaysian hockey players.
