Ben Shelton’s victory in Munich is more than just another trophy for his collection; it is a historic milestone for American tennis.
Shelton has become the first American man to capture a clay-court title above the ATP 250 level since the legendary Andre Agassi last achieved the feat in 2003. This victory ends a 23-year wait for an American player to reclaim dominance on European red clay.
Starting the match with immense confidence, Shelton broke Flavio Cobolli’s early service game to cruise through the opening set 6-2. However, the second set saw a much fiercer challenge from the fourth-seeded Italian.
Shelton was forced to dig deep as the score remained deadlocked at 5-5, eventually securing a critical break at 6-5. He then closed out the match in signature style, utilizing his explosive serve to seal the championship.
This triumph is expected to propel Shelton further up the ATP World Rankings, firmly establishing him as a dark horse and a top contender ahead of the upcoming Grand Slam at Roland Garros (The French Open).

“I never thought I’d enjoy training this much until joining Sportif. The coaches are supportive and really know how to bring out the best in you.”
