Great Start in Denmark: Malaysia Secure Hard-Fought Wins in Thomas and Uber Cup Openers

It was a day of resilience and teamwork as both the Malaysian men’s and women’s badminton squads kicked off their 2026 Thomas & Uber Cup campaigns with vital 3-2 victories at Forum Horsens.

The Malaysian men’s team demonstrated incredible character to overcome a spirited challenge from England in their Group B opener. After falling behind in the early singles matches, the team relied on its depth and collective spirit to stage a comeback.

The fightback was spearheaded by the doubles pairs, with Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun delivering masterclass performances to level the tie. The victory was eventually sealed in the third singles, ensuring Malaysia secured the crucial first point of the tournament.

Simultaneously, the Uber Cup squad moved closer to a historic quarter-final spot after edging Turkiye in a thriller. The highlight of the tie was the clinical performance of the team’s youngest members, Low Zi Yu (16) and Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan (18).

With the score locked at 2-2, the teenage duo showed nerves of steel on their debut to clinch the deciding point. Earlier, strong performances from K. Letshanaa and Goh Jin Wei kept Malaysia in the hunt, proving that the blend of experience and youth is paying off for the national side.
