Malaysia Concludes 6th Asian Beach Games with Historic Sailing Bronze

The Malaysian contingent has officially completed its journey at the 6th Asian Beach Games Sanya 2026, securing a breakthrough podium finish on the final day of competition.

After six days of intense competition, Muhammad Yaasin Syahrizan delivered Malaysia’s only medal of the Games. Competing in the Sailing Optimist Boy’s event at Haihong Square, Yaasin showed incredible grit across ten races to clinch the Bronze medal. He finished behind Thailand’s Rachata Sadtrakulwattana (Gold) and Sorawit Naksuk (Silver).

While Yaasin’s bronze marked the pinnacle of the day, several other national athletes delivered commendable performances as they concluded their respective campaigns:

  • Sailing: Lydia Hannah Jasmine Lukman secured 6th place in the Optimist Girl’s event, while Nur Hafizanah Zailan finished 5th overall in the ILCA4 series.
  • 3×3 Basketball: Both the Men’s and Women’s teams reached the knockout stages but saw their runs end in the quarterfinals. The Women’s team fell 15-7 to Singapore, while the Men’s team was defeated 22-15 by hosts China.

The bronze medal in sailing officially signals the end of Malaysia’s competitive action in Sanya. The contingent, led by Chef de Mission Mahaguru Dato’ (Dr.) Chong Kim Fatt, is scheduled to attend the Closing Ceremony on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Yasha Park.

Despite the solitary medal, the athletes demonstrated remarkable sportsmanship and determination against the best in Asia.
