Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officially inaugurated the National Youth Day (HBN) 2026 celebrations today, ushering in a “new era” for Malaysian youth development with the launch of the Malaysia Youth Development Action Plan 2035 (PBM 2035) and a significant funding boost for the Malaysian Youth Council (MBM).
Speaking at the event held at d’Tempat and X Park Sendayan, the Prime Minister announced an allocation of RM5 million for MBM, an increase from the RM4 million provided last year.
The funding serves as a direct recognition of MBM’s role as the primary driver of the youth agenda under the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS).
“MBM moves the only youth association under the auspices of KBS. So this year, I agree to increase it to RM5 million… last year it was RM4 million,” Anwar stated.
A New Age Definition and Strategic Vision
This 62nd edition of HBN marks a historic turning point with the full enforcement of the Youth Societies and Youth Development (Amendment) Act 2019, which took effect on January 1, 2026.
The act officially lowers the youth age definition to 15 to 30 years old, a move designed to rejuvenate leadership roles and bridge the generational gap in national organizations.
To complement this legislative shift, the Prime Minister launched PBM 2035, a dynamic strategic document aimed at holistically unlocking youth potential.
The plan focuses on eight target groups and will be executed through cross-ministerial collaboration to ensure no young Malaysian is left behind in the country’s progress.
Driving the “MADANI Youth” Movement
Under the theme “Menggerak Belia MADANI” (Moving the MADANI Youth), the celebration highlights that young Malaysians are not just heirs to the future, but leaders of the present. Anwar praised the resilience of the youth and called for them to be rational, innovative, and resilient in an era dominated by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the green economy.
“I salute the resilience and spirit shown,” Anwar remarked during his speech, referring to the tenacity required to navigate the current socio-political and economic landscapes while keeping the people’s interests a priority.
Three Days of Innovation and Culture
The HBN 2026 festivities, running from May 15 to 17, feature over 169 activities across five main segments:
- Job Opportunities: Featuring the MYFutureJobs Carnival by PERKESO.
- Leadership & Volunteerism: Including the National Youth Convention.
- Active Malaysia: Highlighting the Neon Run @ HBN2026 and the MADANI Youth Pickleball Championship.
- Innovation & Digital: Showcasing “Digital Change Makers” by MDEC.
- Arts & Culture: Featuring Street Youth Craft and a Universal Music mini-concert.
Also present at the ceremony were Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Mohammed Taufiq Johari, Deputy Minister Tuan Mordi Anak Bimol, and MBM President Mohd Izzat Afifi Abdul Hamid. The massive turnout underscores HBN’s status as the nation’s highest appreciation for the youth’s contribution to Malaysia’s unity and progress.
