Reigning world champion Abdil Mahdzan opened his 2026 World Downhill Skateboarding Championship (WDSC) season with a second-place podium finish in the CT Open Luge category in Erzincan, Türkiye.
Widely regarded as one of the toughest tracks in the world, the 3-kilometer course at Ergan Daği begins immediately upon exiting the mountain’s gondola station. Competitors were tested by a grueling layout featuring 12 extreme corners, including three exceptionally tight hairpins.
In the final heat, the Malaysian street luge veteran crossed the finish line behind American racer Andy Lally, who claimed the victory. Great Britain’s Phil Spencer rounded out the podium in third place.
The result marks a more conservative start to the season for Abdil compared to his dominant campaign last year, where he swept first-place finishes in both of the opening two races.
Abdil’s campaign to defend his world title will resume at the next stop of the WDSC tour in the Isle of Man this July.
