What was supposed to be a title-clinching celebration for SK Slavia Prague turned into chaos after the Prague derby against AC Sparta Prague was abandoned deep into stoppage time following a massive pitch invasion at Eden Stadium on Saturday night.
Slavia Prague were leading 3-2 and only moments away from officially securing the Czech league title before hundreds of home supporters stormed onto the pitch in the seventh minute of stoppage time. Fans carrying flares and smoke bombs flooded the field, while several pyrotechnics were reportedly thrown across the stadium, creating scenes of panic and disorder.
Players and officials from both teams immediately rushed toward the tunnel as security personnel struggled to regain control of the situation. Referee Karel Roucek initially suspended the match before authorities eventually decided to abandon it completely due to safety concerns.
The situation escalated further after several Sparta Prague personnel were reportedly involved in confrontations with invading supporters. Sparta goalkeeper Jakub Surovcik left the pitch in visible discomfort and later accused fans of physically attacking him during the incident.
“To have someone run up to me during the match, threaten me to my face, and attack me is absolutely unacceptable. I will pursue this legally,” Surovcik wrote on Instagram.
Reports also claimed that Sparta player Matyas Vojta and a member of the club’s medical staff were assaulted amid the chaos. Following the incident, Sparta Prague refused to continue the match and departed the stadium shortly after boarding the team bus.
Even sections of the Slavia Prague supporters inside the stadium reportedly turned against the pitch invaders, chanting insults at those responsible as the club’s title celebrations quickly dissolved into uncertainty.
Slavia chairman Jaroslav Tvrdik admitted the club could now face serious consequences, including the possibility of a forfeit defeat despite leading at the time of the abandonment.
“I’m truly sorry because I thought we would celebrate the title together,” Tvrdik said. “But things turned out differently, as two Sparta players were physically attacked.”
Match officials, police and stadium security are now expected to determine the official outcome of the abandoned derby, while questions remain over the league title and possible disciplinary action following one of the ugliest incidents in recent Czech football history.

“I never thought I’d enjoy training this much until joining Sportif. The coaches are supportive and really know how to bring out the best in you.”
