The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) has secured a significant financial boost after signing a RM25 million memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to strengthen the sport’s development over the next five years.
Under this new strategic collaboration covering the period of 2026 to 2030, MHC will receive RM5 million annually, marking a RM1 million increase from the previous yearly sponsorship.
The agreement was signed by TNB President and CEO Datuk Ir Ts Shamsul Ahmad and MHC President Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal, witnessed by Youth and Sports Minister Dr. Taufiq Johari.
Datuk Ir Ts Shamsul Ahmad emphasized that this partnership transcends corporate sponsorship, describing it as a long-term investment in youth development and the nation’s sporting future.
“At TNB, we believe that sports play an important role in shaping discipline, team spirit and identity of the younger generation,” Shamsul stated, adding that the goal is to see Malaysian hockey achieve world-champion status.
Since 2006, TNB has channeled over RM60 million into the sport, fueling initiatives from grassroots programs like TNB Thunderbolts to elite national team preparations.
MHC President Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal expressed deep appreciation for the utility giant’s continued commitment, noting that the association requires approximately RM15 million annually for total expenses.
He assured that the RM25 million fund would be utilized effectively to enhance the performance of national squads and produce more international successes.
Youth and Sports Minister Dr. Taufiq Johari also lauded the move, noting that such corporate agreements reduce the financial burden on the government and provide a vital platform for hockey to progress further at the highest global levels.

“I never thought I’d enjoy training this much until joining Sportif. The coaches are supportive and really know how to bring out the best in you.”
